Lusail City

Lusail is Qatar's newest planned city, about 15 km north of central Doha along the coast. Built almost entirely from scratch over the 2010s, it was the centrepiece of Qatar's World Cup infrastructure — Lusail Stadium hosted the final — and is now a functional if still-filling mixed-use city of towers, marinas, and shopping.

The marina promenade at Lusail is the most visitor-friendly part: a long waterfront with cafés, restaurants, and rental boats, considerably less crowded than the Corniche on evenings and weekends. The metro Blue Line now runs to Lusail. The city gives a useful perspective on where Qatar is building next.

A story
Lusail Stadium hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup final — the match between Argentina and France that ended 3-3 after extra time before Argentina won on penalties. The stadium seats 89,000 and was the largest World Cup venue. Qatar announced plans to repurpose it into a community hub with schools, shops, and clinics after the tournament, though the precise redevelopment timeline remains unclear.
