Things to Do

Qatif's history is its main draw. The ruins of Qal'at al-Qatif in the old city centre were largely demolished in the 1980s but the site still marks where one of the Arabian Gulf's most significant fortresses stood for centuries, and nearby streets preserve traces of the old urban fabric. Tarout Castle, on Tarout Island connected to the city by causeway, survives in fragmentary form and sits on a site inhabited since the Dilmun civilisation.

The Qatif Corniche runs along the Arabian Gulf waterfront and is the main gathering place for families in the evening, with walkways, gardens, and views across the water towards Bahrain. The old market area retains some traditional character and is worth an hour of wandering.
