National Museum of Saudi Arabia

Arabia from prehistory to the modern kingdom

The National Museum, part of the King Abdul Aziz Historical Centre, covers the Arabian Peninsula from prehistory through the Islamic period to the modern Saudi state. Eight halls trace the story chronologically, from fossils and stone tools through the rise of Islam, the Ottoman centuries, and the unification of the kingdom under Ibn Saud. The Hall of the Prophet's Mission is the centrepiece, with detailed models and calligraphy. Well laid out, spacious, and one of the best museums in the Gulf. Admission is free.
