Abdullah Bin Abbas Mosque

The Abdullah Bin Abbas Mosque sits on the supposed site of the grave of Abdullah ibn Abbas, the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad and one of the most important early Islamic scholars. The original building was small; the present mosque is a recent reconstruction with a large white facade, a single minaret, and capacity for thousands of worshippers.

Non-Muslims cannot enter, but the exterior is one of the more impressive religious buildings in the city. The square in front is the centre of the old town and a useful orientation point.
