Mureung Valley is Donghae's mountain escape, a wooded valley below Dutasan with temple buildings, rock pools, waterfalls and trails that can be as gentle or as demanding as you make them. It gives the city a second landscape beyond beaches and harbours.
Go in clear weather and start early if you plan to hike beyond the easy lower valley. In autumn the colours and granite scenery make it one of the best reasons to stop in Donghae rather than simply passing along the coast.
