Jeungsimsa Temple sits at the western foot of Mudeungsan Mountain and is one of Gwangju's main Buddhist temples. The grounds preserve important cultural artifacts, and the approach makes it easy to combine the temple with a walk into the national park.
It is a good first stop on Mudeungsan: close enough to the city for a straightforward visit, but already outside the urban pace.
