Daegwallyeong Samyang Ranch shows the open, highland side of Pyeongchang. It is a managed attraction rather than wild countryside, but the scale of the pasture, the wind, and the views make it a good counterpoint to temple forests and ski lifts.
Go when the weather is clear. In fog the ranch can feel like a bus ride through white space; in sun it gives Pyeongchang the big-sky landscape that many visitors expect from Gangwon's mountains.
