Igeum-dong Archaeological Site

Bronze Age village and dolmens on the northern edge of town

Igeum-dong is one of the most intensively excavated Bronze Age sites in South Korea — a hilltop settlement and burial complex dating from roughly 1000–600 BC, with over a hundred pit-house foundations, stone-cist tombs, and surrounding dolmens. Many of the original features are now reburied for preservation, but a reconstructed village and an open-air display area show what the site looked like.

The dolmens — flat capstones balanced on upright supports — are easy to spot scattered across the slopes. South Korea has more dolmens than any other country in the world, and this part of the south coast is among the densest concentrations.
