Colombo Lighthouse stands near the Fort waterfront, watching over the harbour approaches and the administrative core of the city. It is a practical maritime landmark, but also part of the layered colonial and post-colonial geography of Fort.
Access around the harbour can be sensitive, so treat it as a landmark to view from nearby rather than a guaranteed interior visit. It combines well with a walk through Fort, the old Dutch Hospital area, and Galle Face.
