Haththikuchchi is an archaeological site rather than a living town. What you come for is the ancient monastery complex — the rock, the ruins, the quiet, and the connection to one of Sri Lanka's most venerated royal legends. It takes two to three hours to explore the main areas at a relaxed pace.
