Galway's Land National Park

Galway's Land is a small national park — just 27 hectares — of dense montane forest at the edge of Nuwara Eliya. It sounds modest, but the forest is genuinely different from the surrounding tea estates: thick, dripping, with ferns, mosses, and Rhododendron arboreum that flowers bright red in spring. A short trail winds through the park and takes about an hour to walk.

The park is excellent for birds. Sri Lanka white-eye, Dull-blue flycatcher, Sri Lanka bush warbler, and other endemics resident in the highland forests can be spotted here. It is also home to giant squirrel and various reptiles. The park is best visited in the early morning when birds are most active. There is a small admission fee.
