Holy Trinity Church is an Anglican church built in 1852, one of the oldest colonial buildings in Nuwara Eliya and still in use. It sits at the edge of the town centre and its grey stone walls and pointed arched windows give it an appropriately Highland parish feel — you could be in the Scottish uplands rather than Sri Lanka. The graveyard contains the graves of British planters, colonial officials, and their families from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The church interior is simple and well-maintained. Services are still held for the small remaining Anglican congregation. The graveyard is worth wandering through for its inscriptions, which tell the brief and often young lives of people who came from Britain to make their fortunes in the Ceylon tea trade and did not always survive the attempt.
