Eating in Unawatuna is casual and cheap by any measure. The beach road and the parallel Yaddehimulla Road are lined with small restaurants and cafes serving a mix of rice and curry, fresh seafood, and the backpacker staples — banana pancakes, fruit salads, pasta — that Sri Lanka's beach towns have always catered to. The seafood is worth focusing on: the boats go out every night and the catch comes ashore each morning. Cuttlefish, prawns, and various reef fish are typically grilled to order with garlic butter or coconut curry sauce.
