A 348-metre, 85-storey skyscraper completed in 1997 — until Taipei 101 opened in 2004, it was the tallest building in Taiwan. The two-leg shape is unusual: the building is split for the lower 35 floors and then merges into a single tower above. The form is meant to suggest the character for "high".
An observatory on the 74th floor gives an aerial view of the city, the harbour and the mountains to the east. Best at dusk. Several restaurants on the upper floors do passable food at view prices. Tickets at the base of the tower; allow an hour for the visit.
