By air: Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) sits inside the city limits, only 8 km from the centre — a 15-minute MRT ride on the Red Line. It handles flights from across East and Southeast Asia (mainland China, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore) and a few long-haul services.
By high-speed rail: HSR trains from Taipei take about 90 minutes to Kaohsiung's Zuoying station. From Zuoying, the MRT Red Line takes 20 minutes to the city centre.
By conventional train: TRA services from Taichung, Tainan and Taipei reach Kaohsiung Main Station, which is in the centre of town. The journey from Taipei is around 4 hours.
By bus: Long-distance buses are cheaper than the HSR and run from a terminal next to Kaohsiung Main Station. Taipei is 4-5 hours by motorway.
By ferry: Kaohsiung is a major cruise port but has no scheduled international passenger ferries.
