A street that has been selling dried goods, Chinese medicinal herbs, mushrooms, seaweed and preserved fruit since the 1940s. Sanfong Zhongjie has retained more of an old-Taiwan atmosphere than most of the city — the shopkeepers are mostly older, the shops are family-run, and the herbs are still measured out with brass weighing scales.
The street is especially busy before Lunar New Year, when families come to stock up on red dates, dried mushrooms and other ingredients. Walk through during the day for the sights and smells; few stalls open after sunset. Take the Red Line to Kaohsiung Main Station and walk east.
