The Green Bazaar — officially Shohi Mansur but universally called the Green Bazaar — is distinct from the Barakat indoor market and offers more of an open-air experience. Fruit and vegetable sellers dominate the outer sections, with the best selection of Tajik dried fruits and nuts in the city: apricots, mulberries, walnuts, and pomegranates in season.
The inner sections have spices, herbs, and condiments, including the fragrant dried wild thyme (zira) and the red pepper blends that are the backbone of Tajik cooking. The atmosphere is livelier than the covered Barakat, with more haggling and more variety in the goods on offer. Go hungry — vendors offer samples freely.
