Dushanbe's sights are concentrated but worth your time. The National Museum has the finest Buddhist art in Central Asia; the Gurminj Museum has a remarkable collection of Central Asian instruments; the Barakat Bazaar is the most vivid place in the city. The Rokhat Teahouse is an institution. The Dushanbe Flagpole and Ismoil Somoni Monument are the defining symbols of post-independence national identity. The city is compact enough to cover the main sights on foot in a day, leaving time to simply sit in the park or wander the bazaar.
