Mu Ko Phayam National Park

Marine national park protecting the island, surrounding islets, and coral reefs

Established in 2003, Mu Ko Phayam National Park covers Koh Phayam and the chain of smaller islands and coral reefs stretching through this part of the Andaman Sea. The park's marine territory includes coral gardens that support diverse reef life — fish, rays, occasional sea turtles — accessible by snorkel and scuba from longtail boats hired in the main village.

The park's terrestrial side is mainly covered in coconut palms and cashew plantations, with some remaining coastal forest. The Chao Le (sea gypsy) community on the eastern shore has traditional fishing rights within the park and practises low-impact methods that have coexisted with the reef ecosystem for generations. Entrance fees are collected at the park office in the village.
