Opened in 1999, the BTS Skytrain is an elevated railway that runs above some of Bangkok's busiest streets, blissfully avoiding the traffic below. Two lines cross at Siam Station near Siam Square. Fares are cheap, the trains are air-conditioned, and all signs and announcements are in both Thai and English. Generally the safest, fastest, and often cheapest way to get around the central city.
