Bangkok's traffic is legendary and not in a good way. The BTS Skytrain and MRT subway are by far the fastest ways to cover distances in the central city. Where the trains do not reach, metered taxis are plentiful and cheap -- just make sure the meter is running. For a more atmospheric ride, the Chao Phraya Express Boats and canal boats offer quick, inexpensive transport along the river and through the old city. Tuk-tuks are fun for the novelty but negotiate your fare before climbing in.
