Patpong Road runs through the heart of Bangkok's red-light entertainment district, but the nightly market that sets up along its length has become one of the city's most visited — if not entirely reputable — shopping destinations. Stalls sell counterfeit goods, tourist souvenirs, and street food under the glow of neon signs, while bars and clubs line the flanks.
The market is best approached as entertainment rather than serious shopping. Come for the atmosphere and the spectacle of Bangkok's seamier side presented with particular openness. The food stalls are genuine — pad thai and grilled satay cooked fresh over charcoal. The "genuine" branded goods are not.
