Wat Mangkon Kamalawat

The largest and most important Chinese Buddhist temple in Chinatown

Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, the Dragon Lotus Temple, is the grandest Chinese-style temple in Bangkok and the spiritual heart of the Chinatown community. Founded in 1871, its ornate gateway and incense-filled halls blend Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian worship, with gilded deities, fortune-telling sticks, and red lanterns strung overhead.

The temple is busiest and most spectacular during Chinese New Year and the annual Vegetarian Festival, when the surrounding lanes fill with devotees, food stalls, and clouds of smoke from burning offerings. A modern MRT station named for the temple now makes it one of the easiest points to enter the neighbourhood.
