Ayutthaya has a solid food scene centred on the river. The night market along the Chao Phraya River, on Chee Kun Road near the bridge, is the best place to eat in the evenings — dozens of stalls selling grilled meats, noodles, pad thai, and fresh seafood. Arrive after 6pm when the stalls are fully set up.
The area around the train station has inexpensive noodle shops popular with locals. Roti Sai Mai — thin strands of sweet, coloured roti wrapped with palm sugar candy — is the signature snack of Ayutthaya and sold at stalls throughout town.
