Krue Se Mosque stands east of Pattani city and is one of the oldest and most storied mosques in the region. Its unfinished brick structure is tied in local legend to Lim Ko Niao's curse, but it also belongs to the deeper history of Patani as an Islamic centre from the early modern period.
The mosque is historically important, but it is also politically sensitive because of violence there in 2004. Go only after checking current conditions, and behave with particular care around worshippers and local security.
