King Taksin Park

Lake-side public park dedicated to the king who freed Siam

King Taksin Park, just north of the centre, is the city's main public green space, built around a small lake with a paved walking circuit. It was named for King Taksin the Great, the eighteenth-century military leader who rallied his forces in Chantaburi after the fall of Ayutthaya to the Burmese in 1767 and went on to reconquer Siam.

A bronze statue of the king on horseback dominates the park's western end. The lake reflects it nicely at sunset, which is when locals come to walk, jog, and eat at the small food stalls along the paths. Free to enter, open all day.
