Cycling the Island

Koh Mak is flat — a rare thing in the Thai islands — and a bicycle is the natural way to get around. Every resort rents bikes for 100–150 baht a day, and the concrete lanes between the rubber plantations are quiet enough that you rarely see a car.

A full loop of the inhabited part of the island is around 15 km and takes a couple of hours with stops. The interior passes coconut groves, the village school, a small Buddhist temple, and several patches of jungle where hornbills are sometimes spotted in the early morning.
