Bottle Beach (Haad Khuat)

Remote north-coast bay reachable only by longtail boat or jungle trail — one of Thailand's best kept beaches

Bottle Beach is a beautiful crescent of sand on Koh Phangan's northeast coast, backed by forested hills and accessible only by longtail boat from Chalok Lam or by a steep jungle trail. Its relative inaccessibility has preserved it — there is no road to the beach, and development is minimal. A handful of simple bungalow operations and one or two restaurants occupy the beach; that is all.

The boat from Chalok Lam takes about 20 minutes and costs a few hundred baht. The trail takes roughly 45 minutes in each direction and involves some scrambling. From the viewpoint above the beach you get a panoramic view of the bay and the surrounding islands — one of the better outlooks on Koh Phangan. Stay overnight if you want the beach to yourself in the early morning.
