Prasat Ban Phluang

Small but finely carved Khmer sanctuary south of Surin.

Prasat Ban Phluang is a small Khmer sanctuary south of Surin, easy to underestimate if you judge ruins by size alone. The single sandstone tower stands on a laterite base with a moat-like setting, and the surviving lintels and pediments show the kind of crisp carving that rewards a slow look.

It makes a good half-day for travellers interested in the Khmer sites scattered across lower Isan. You will not find the scale of Phanom Rung or the drama of Ta Muen Thom, but the site is quiet, readable, and close enough to Surin to combine with silk villages or other ruins in the province.
