Mo Paeng Waterfall

Mo Paeng Waterfall is a broad multi-tiered cascade about 8 kilometres northwest of Pai town. Unlike the dramatic single-drop falls found further north, Mo Paeng is a wide limestone terrace waterfall, with the water sliding down layers of pale rock into a series of natural pools. It is one of the few waterfalls in northern Thailand where swimming is genuinely pleasant and the natural rock slides work well for adults as well as children.

The falls are within the grounds of a small resort, and admission is charged. The access road passes through scenic countryside. Visit during the dry season (November–April) for the most reliable water levels and the smoothest slides; during the rainy season the water can be fast and the rocks slippery.

A story
Mo Paeng is notable less for its height — it is not particularly tall — than for the broad limestone tiers that create a series of natural rock slides and shallow pools. Local children use it as a waterpark in the dry season, sliding down the smoothed limestone on a thin film of water. The sight of adults doing the same thing with considerably less grace is one of Pai's more cheerful spectacles.
