The Seven Elephants Cafe, at the Soppong River Inn 150 metres west of the market on the main road to Mae Hong Son, offers indoor and outdoor seating in a garden of palms and heliconias. The menu ranges across Southeast Asia, with local Shan dishes alongside Western options, and there's a proper espresso machine — a welcome change from the instant Nescafe found at most upcountry stops. House cocktails include the Bloody Mali and the Thaijito, a mojito made with Similan rum, plus a short list of imported red wines.
Drinks, snacks, and Thai or Western breakfast are served on the deck overlooking the river, with music playing through the day and into the evening.
