Tham Mae Lana

Tham Mae Lana is one of the longest caves in Southeast Asia, stretching for over 12 kilometres through the karst hills northwest of Soppong. Unlike Tham Lot, which is a show cave with regular guided tours, Tham Mae Lana is an adventure caving destination — long, complex, and requiring proper equipment and experienced guides. Parts of the cave involve wading through underground streams and scrambling through passages.

The cave is accessible from the village of Mae Lana, reached by a scenic dirt road from Soppong through Shan and hilltribe settlements. Several guesthouses in Soppong arrange guided trips to Tham Mae Lana for groups; it's not possible to enter alone. The combination of the drive to Mae Lana village, the cave itself, and the return makes for a full-day outing.
