The fishing pier at the northern end of Ruamchit Road is a pleasant place to spend an early evening. Local fishermen haul in squid and mackerel while vendors set up charcoal grills along the pier's edge, and the light off the Gulf at dusk can be spectacular. It is not a tourist attraction in any formal sense — just one of those spots that gives a town its texture.
Several of the seafood restaurants near the pier buy their catch directly off the boats, which explains why the food here tends to be fresher and cheaper than the more polished establishments further along the beach boulevard. Arrive around 5 pm to watch the catch come in, or simply to claim a spot before the dinner crowd arrives.
