Tomb of Seydi Mahmut

The Tomb of Seydi Mahmut is a small, odd, Byzantine-looking structure tied to Akşehir's Sufi past. Seydi Mahmut came from Harran, became a disciple of Rumi in Konya, and died here in the 13th century.

The attached Ferruhşah Mosque has a sharper historical edge: after Timur defeated Bayezid I at Ankara in 1402, the captive Ottoman sultan was held here and never left alive.
