Giresun Castle crowns the promontory above the old harbour. The surviving walls are fragmentary, but the position explains the city: sea on three sides, the coast road below, and the green Black Sea hills rising immediately inland.
Come for the view as much as the archaeology. Paths climb through trees to lookout points, tea gardens, graves, and memorials, with the whole city spread around the curve of the coast.
