Lycian Way Walks

The Lycian Way, Turkey's first and best-known long-distance hiking trail, runs east along the coast from Fethiye for some 760 km. Hisaronu sits more or less on top of one of its earlier stages, and a number of pleasant half-day walks branch off the main trail and lead back to the village. The most popular short loop drops from Hisaronu down to Kayaköy through pine forest in around two hours; the alternative climbs out the back of Oludeniz to Butterfly Valley above the cliffs (allow most of a day, and check on the heat).

The trail is well waymarked in red and white, but in summer the heat and exposure are no joke — get going at first light, carry plenty of water, and turn back if the path is unclear. Several small outfits in Hisaronu rent waymarked maps and arrange day-hike transfers to and from the more distant trailheads at Faralya and Kabak.
