Alsancak

Alsancak is İzmir's most cosmopolitan district, occupying the waterfront north of Konak Square. Historically the neighbourhood of Levantine merchants, Greek traders, and European consulates, it retains a distinctive character — wide boulevards, late Ottoman and early Republican apartment buildings, and a density of cafés, wine bars, and restaurants that makes it the best area for an evening out.

The Kordon promenade runs along the waterfront, and behind it the grid of streets holds İzmir's best concentration of bars and restaurants. Kıbrıs Şehitleri Caddesi is the main nightlife street, lined from end to end with outdoor tables in summer. The Atatürk Museum and the railway station are both in Alsancak.
