Karaman Castle

Low central fortress with Seljuk, Karamanid, Ottoman, and earlier layers in its walls.

Karaman Castle is the city's clearest landmark, a partly ruined fortress set on a mound just west of the centre. The walls were rebuilt and repaired under the Seljuks, Karamanids, and Ottomans, with older architectural fragments reused in the masonry.

It is not a vast castle, but it gives Karaman a clear focal point and a useful view over the plain. Look for the way the citadel sits on top of older occupation layers rather than isolated on a dramatic cliff.
