Kütahya Castle rises on the ridge west of the old town. The surviving walls are a patchwork of periods rather than a single perfect fortress, but the position explains why the city mattered: this is a valley route, and the castle watches it well.
The climb is steep if you walk, though the views make the effort worthwhile. From the top you can see the old centre, the newer industrial edges, and the mountains that hem the city in.
