Duatepe Monument

Battlefield hill with statues of Atatürk and Turkish commanders above the plain.

Duatepe was one of the strategic heights in the Battle of the Sakarya. Today it is marked by an open-air monument group, including a statue inspired by a photograph of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk watching the fighting through binoculars.

The site works best after seeing the main Sakarya monument or the Mehmetçik Monument. By then the hills around Polatlı start to connect into one battlefield rather than a set of isolated memorials.
