Nemrut Crater is the landscape that makes Tatvan worth the stop. The road climbs from town into a broad volcanic caldera with cold lakes, warm springs, bare slopes, and sudden views down to Lake Van.
It is best with a car or arranged transport, because the crater is too spread out for a casual stroll from town. Take warm layers even in summer; the height and wind make the weather feel different from the lake shore.
