Tokat Castle

Tokat Castle crowns the rock above the old city, a defensive site used and rebuilt through many periods. The crag is the visual anchor of Tokat, visible from the streets below and especially dramatic when the city tightens around the base.

The castle has been linked in local lore to Vlad the Impaler's Ottoman captivity, though that claim is uncertain. Even without the story, the hill gives Tokat its shape.
