Moynaq Aral Sea Museum

Moynaq has a small museum dedicated to the Aral Sea disaster and the history of the town's fishing industry. The collection includes historical photographs of the port in its functioning years, maps showing the sea's retreat decade by decade, samples of the fish species that were once caught here, and documents from the Soviet-era cannery that employed much of the town's population.

The museum is modest in scale and the presentation is basic, but the photographs are remarkable — images of the harbour full of boats, of women working in the cannery, of the lakeside boulevard as a functioning resort destination. The contrast with the silence outside is hard to shake. Staff can sometimes provide informal guide services; a small donation is appreciated.
