Moynaq is reached from Nukus, the capital of Karakalpakstan, a 2-hour taxi ride to the north (around 200 km). There is no reliable public transport direct to the ships — hire a taxi for the day in Nukus, agree a price in advance, and ask the driver to take you to the ship graveyard and the old cliff overlook.
The road from Nukus passes through flat, semi-arid steppe and gives little visual warning of what awaits. Muynak Airport exists but has no scheduled commercial service. There is a train station at Kungrad, about 100 km southwest, with connections from Nukus; onward travel to Moynaq requires a taxi from there.
Bring water and food. There is very little available in Moynaq itself, and in the summer heat the exposed desert site of the ships can be punishing.
