Urgench has an international airport with flights from Tashkent, Moscow, and several other regional hubs. The airport is 4 km north of the centre, reachable by taxi in about ten minutes.
The most common overland approach is by shared taxi or minibus from Tashkent (around 12 hours) or from Bukhara (5–6 hours). Buses also run from Nukus to the north. From Urgench to Khiva is a 30-minute taxi ride; shared taxis leave from outside the bazaar and the bus station. A private taxi to Khiva should cost a few dollars.
For the Aral Sea region, you need to head north to Nukus first — shared taxis or marshrutkas make the run in about 2.5 hours.
