Dien Bien Phu is primarily a pilgrimage site for those interested in the 1954 battle and the end of French colonialism in Indochina. The battlefield sites, museum, and memorials are spread across the valley floor and the surrounding hills. Beyond the war history, the valley offers access to Tai and Hmong villages and some worthwhile mountain scenery.
