Tu Duc Tomb

Most romantic royal tomb; an emperor's retreat of lotus ponds and poetry

The tomb of the longest-reigning Nguyen emperor (1847-1883), and the most romantic of the royal tombs. Tu Duc designed it as a retreat where he spent his final years writing poetry among pavilions, lotus ponds, and gardens. The complex feels more like an imperial park than a burial ground, with temples, a theatre stage, and a lake scattered across a wooded hillside.
