Christ of Vung Tau

The Christ statue on Mount Nhỏ at the southern tip of the peninsula is Vung Tau's signature image. It stands 32 metres tall with arms outstretched 18 metres across — a near-twin of Rio's Cristo Redentor, finished in the early 1990s after a stop-start construction that bridged the end of the war.

The climb is the real point of the visit: roughly 800 steps up through a wooded park, with viewpoints along the way. Inside the statue, a narrow spiral staircase climbs up to the arms, where small openings give you the view of the peninsula and the South China Sea. Bring water, go early to beat the heat, and remember to dress respectfully (no shorts, no bare shoulders) — they will refuse entry otherwise.
