Vung Tau is about 120 km south-east of Ho Chi Minh City. The fastest connection is the hydrofoil/express ferry from Bạch Đằng pier in central Saigon — roughly 1 hour 30 minutes across the river and bay. Boats run several times a day.
By road, the trip takes 2 to 3 hours by car or taxi via the Long Thành expressway, longer at weekends when half of Ho Chi Minh City heads the same way. Air-conditioned buses run from Miền Đông bus station and arrive at the bus terminal in central Vung Tau. Vung Tau Airport on the peninsula handles only helicopter and small-aircraft services to offshore oil platforms — there are no scheduled passenger flights.
