Ofu Beach runs for nearly two miles along the island's southern coast, backed by dense coastal forest and fronted by a fringing reef that begins just a short swim offshore. The sand is fine coral, bright white, and largely untouched. On most visits you can walk the length of it and see no other people.
The beach sits within the To'aga unit of the National Park of American Samoa, which protects both the land strip and the 400 acres of reef just offshore. The reef starts shallow and very close to the beach, making it accessible to anyone who can swim. Bring your own snorkel gear from Tutuila — there is nothing to rent on Ofu. Before going in, ask at the NPS campsite about current conditions, any temporary closures, and which sections of reef have the best coral coverage at the time of your visit.
